Jinky-fied

Most of the photographers I know have an unhealthy obsession with Australian photographer,  Jinky – aka Barb Uil.  My friend Heidi and I were lucky enough to get to stalk meet her at The Secret Workshop in San Diego back in February.  She was just as amazing in person as I expected her to be.  Unfortunately, we were competing with 40 of her other biggest fans to get her attention but the workshop was wonderful (plus, Heidi got to talk to her in line to use the bathroom and while we were out shooting she touched my hair and told me she liked my pink extensions).  I hadn’t been that giddy since my crush on Ricky Schroeder in 4th grade – and he was “Ricky” then so I don’t want to hear this “Rick” nonsense.  Anyway, in the midst of my girl-crush I tried to immitate her style in this picture of Riley.  I think it’s cute but it’s also clear that there’s only one Jinky in this world and unfortunately, I’m not her!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You are too cute! This is a great shot and you are right Barb is amazing.

  • Well I too am overcome by her goodness often. I was thrilled to hear she moved a hour away from me. LOL geographically closer.. I dont know if i thought that maybe perhaps that meant some of her goodness would drift to my part of the country..LOL but .. i was excited! I think you will be fine.. as long as you don’t scream and declare never to wash those pink extensions!

  • Lucky you to be able to stalk Barb, I’m green with envy!! I too has been a vivid fan of Barb for several years now, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that some of her magical fairy dust is rubbing off on me too.

I love your shot of Riley, and I love the colorful spots on the tree. You have mastered the skills to perfection!

    LOL

  • You may aspire to be like Barb, but just be yourself. You do a wonderful job from what I have just seen here on your blog and also your website…If we were all the same how boring would this world be???

  • What a beautiful photo you took and you’re so right that Barbara is so talented. I haven’t been fortunate to meet her … yet … but I live only 1hr from her town so it’s possible I guess – one very amazing photographer! Need a class to attend here in Brisbane.

  • I think you did an excellent job on trying to capture her style!! It is so hard to do! Im so jealous of your pink extensions AND meeting Jinky!
    Great blog!

  • Hello Rebecca! I was reading Barbara’s Blog and followed your link in her “shoutout” entry. How wonderful!

First of all, you have an adorable daughter – very photogenic.

Secondly, your pix are great. I very much like the above pic, but might like the ones in your galleries (they seem to be darker/moodier) better.

I’m also trying to “find” my style. I love Jinky, love Tara Whitney, love Cheryl Muhr, love Jessica Claire, love Audrey Woolard.

Now a question for you: Do you have the itty bitty actions? I think I saw somewhere you do. I just bought the 52 set (because, again, i LOVE Barb). Which actions do you use most often? I find I am currently addicted to “Subject Light & Glow” and haven’t tried too many others.

Keep up the great work. Love your images!
