Yesterday was our monster-themed birthday party. Let me tell you, I started planning this party back in the fall when I found monster stationary and decided that it would be the basis for R&R’s next birthday party. I made a monster pinata, made an almost 4ft felt covered monster for “pin the eyeball on the monster”, sewed 20 monster eyes, bought “decorate your own monster mask” kits, bought strap-on monster feet for monster races, blew up 24 monster faced beach balls, and hired a face painter to make the little monsters sweethearts look like monsters, etc………………you get the idea. It was an elaborate setup and here’s how it went down: monster races never happened due to a downpour, the monster pinata didn’t break properly so I ripped the damn thing apart with my hands, pin the eyeball was okay but not exactly thrilling, I totally forgot about the monster masks and didn’t even give them out (oops, anyone want to come over for a mask-making craft day!?!?!), and the face-painter who was excellent by the way wasn’t able to convince even one kid to have a monster face instead it went like this………………………..Miss Riley was up first and decided that she wanted to be a (drumroll please)
PRINCESS OF COURSE!!!!!!! (DISCLAIMER: All pictures were taken after my 3rd Corona and I’m a major lightweight when it comes to alcohol so I may as well have drank a bottle of whiskey. Let’s just say, I was feeling good and my composition and focusing was NOT).
Okay, so back to the princess – once my daughter crossed from Monster Land into Princess World, all hope was lost for the rest of the little girls!!!!!!!!!!

Thank God there were some boys there to break up the PinkFest because it was seriously starting to look like a beauty pageant from hell in here!
So anyway, it was a great party and the kids had a ton of fun and I think the adults did too (at least the massive collection of empty bottles on my kitchen counter would indicate that they did) and we are thrilled that everyone came out and had a good time. I apologize to the kids whose pictures didn’t make it onto the blog but there were some who didn’t want their faces painted and they managed to escape my camera. Those kids include my little guy who didn’t get one picture taken of him. Oh well. I’m now off to take a nap until next year!
